House Ahtiainen

The house is surrounded by a former urban residential zone where some new buildings have been added in the past years. In the beginning of the project, a badly moisture-damaged, single-storey house built of red brick from the 1970’s needed to de demolished on the site.

The courtyard of the L-shaped building opens to south south-west. The building is one and a half storeys. Thanks to the rising roof running parallel to the street level, the house has an attic and a high ceiling living room space. Apart from the wooden roof, the house is of concrete with the outer walls of insulating formwork blocks. The facades are rendered, and there is a horizontal wood panelling on the walls of the carport. The roof covering is of seam-welded steel sheet.
